t8 to t5 conversion?

hey folks, I just started my first dirt tank. I hope to get some pictures up soon but I am a procrastinator so we will see. I have a question, does any one know how to convert a t8 lighting fixture to t5 HO and if so can you please walk me through it. I have done a little research but I am not convinced that I know how to convert my existing fixture to fit a t5. Background: I have a 36 gal. bowfront i got at petsmart as a starter tank. The hood matches the tank and looks pretty good right now so I don't want to but a new fixture. The tank length is 30 inches so, the light fixture is 29 ish and the bulb a bit shorter. Don't know if that info matters. Any help could save me loads of cash and time. Thanks.

I did a t8 to t5 conversion. It's not really cost effective unless you just really want to do it yourself. I've seen some t5ho fixtures for as much as it cost me to retrofit so it was a wash. It's quite easy though. Get a ballast & endcaps, take out your existing ballast & endcaps. Install new ones. Match up colored wires & your done. Probably some more in depth articles & videos if you do a quick search.
