Live Rock

This discussion helps clear why live rock, although expensive, is a beneficial addition to any saltwater aquarium. 

First Reason

The first and probably most important reason why live rock is a great addition to the tank is the fact that it helps filter the water.  Tiny microorganisms such as coralline algae and others work together to help cycle the tank lowering nitrates and spreading beneficial microorganisms throughout the tank this is why often times people will put live rock in their refugium.

Second Reason

Second this is more of a personal preference but with all the various colorations of coralline algea (green,red,pink,purple,orange) it adds more of a tropical look to the tank and helps people concieve the concept hey thats a saltwater tank.

Third Reason

Third it not only makes the tank look good but fish and invertebrates love live rock and as a responsible saltwater fish owner its your job to make the fish happy after all most were taken from the ocean why not atleast try and replicate there natural environment.
