I was wondering if anybody tried this.

I have several discus that I want to move over to a new tank because they are getting pretty big.

I'm thinking about using dirt with pool sand as the cap.

So what I'm wondering is... how do you keep the water's pH low?

Will dirt slowly decrease pH? or will it not do anything?

Will using R/O water keep the pH low, or will the dirt cause it to get too low?

Any suggestions will help.

Ive kepy discus in a dirted tank. No dirt doesnt lower ph. Unless they are wild caught discus the ph doesnt matter. My discus pairs are breeding in 7.8ph. If ur using ro water the dirt wont raise the ph. U will have to monitor ur water parameters a bit more with the dirted tank but thats about it.
