What are these 2 plants? I bought them here in Korea.

Could someone please tell me what are these plants? I bought them yesterday and I live in Korea and my Korean isn't that good, also the LFS they don't know the names... they just sell plants for 2 dollars (equivalent) and the bigger one, which I believe is some sort of Echinodorus, was for free because I bought some other plants.

This for sure is some kind of sword (Echinodorus)... please don't say "light saber" hahaha small joke.

Of course South Korea hahaha, North is hell on earth for real O_O.  Yeah actually it really doesnt look aquatic (the first plant) I saw it and it really looks like pine tree... I thought it was some kind of hornwort but when the LFS seller took it out from the water I saw it was erect instead of soft & flexible. I tried looking everywhere and I cant find an answer.  The second one for sure is some sort of Sword, I dont think it's the Amazon sword, but more like red melon sword or the echinodorus kleiner bar.  Anyways the first plant really makes me wonder... the LFS had like 6 of those all submerged in water.

The first one looks coniferous. Grow it above water for a bit and see how it does. You don't want to have the possibility of all that melting in your tank.

I already have it for 3 days in my place... I saw it in the store fore more than 3 weeks and then (3days ago) I decided to buy it because I'm going to start something wacky "Diana Walstad Method combined with a Diana-Walstad-based Refugium" hehehe.... I kinda dont dare to have it emerged... but it already have 3 days sitting inside of my tank (0ammonia 0nitrites 0 nitrates) and it is not melting nor shedding anyting... it's an odd plant for real O_O.

This is my design for a 16 gal Diana-Walstad-based Refugium >_< hehe

Your Refugium looks pretty legit! Her book is pretty amazing as well, I carry it with me everyday for quick reference =D. And you second plant looks a lot like a Melon Sword (Echinodorus osiris). Ill try and look into the 1st one as well. It does look pretty cool, and I hope it is a true aquatic.

Thanks a lot ^_^, I will be posting a youtube video of my refugium. Yes the first plant for sure is some sort of odd asiatic aquatic plant. I mean, if its not an aquatic plant then the plants at the LFS would be dead just one week after they got it. I asked the name but I really have no idea what is it, I tried with my GF (she is korean) and she didnt get anything, besides she said, the name is written in Chinese. I will try to post the name, I will first try to get a chinese diccionary. I really appreciate you for your help ^_^ thanks

Cant wait to see the youtube vid. I may make my own =] And think im going to do some more research on it, at least you know that its chinese, that helps a lot. And yeah, everything you said is right about LFS and non aquatic plants....but there are some exceptions like mondo-grass(not an aquatic plant, but can survive for a while completely submerged). But ill see what I can dig up.

The guy in the LFS is chinese, he gave me this website: http://yangli.1946.blog.163.com/blog/static/73079756201204056145/

It looks exactly the same as this plant (first picture).

And now for the best part... I came up with a better design after reading Diana Walstad's book once again... she explains that bubbles are would make the CO2 get lost, but we need some water movement, which is different from saying "surface agitation", therefore if we want to have our plants thriving we cant have spray bars. I also tried another way to eliminate or reduce air bubbles, a different bubble trap design based in this image I found in google:

http://glassbox-design.com/2009/snm-overflow-bubble-trap-controls-s...

Also the last baffle is shorter to avoid having a splash from the waterfall, due to the difference of the water level.

I did a small edit... I realized I didnt need the duckweed barrier, that way I can have more duckweeds, frogbits and water lettuce... I also discovered my 300w heater is way much longer hahaha

just remember to use organic non fertilized planting soil. and maybe attach the Java Fern to lava rock. The lava rock can also help as a bit of a "biological" trap. Just an idea, it may be cool?

I kind of want to do this now....this is totally cool.

I actually did a fish tank using garden soil, I just go to a market (yeah those asian markets where you can get whatever you want, from dogs, plants, vegetables, to used furniture) and bought some garden soil which they told me its from the mountains close to the border of North Korea O_O. And... I tried with some siamese algae eaters which keeps that tank zero-algae for around 3 weeks already (the fish tank already cycled and containing humic acids, a nice yellowish water color as Diana mentioned in her book)

The Lava rock sounds good, but I'm worried about too many biologic bacterias because Diana explained that this bacteria will compete with plants for ammonia... but what I thought is ... I could tie this java fern + some java moss, covering the Lava rock... I was also trying to get information about the red lava rock which is the one I saw at the LFS, to know if that rock has some other special effect in the water, like providing some mineral or something, do you know anything about it?

Here's 2 pictures of my Refugium process, I started 2 days ago... I already broke so many sheets of glass (specially for the small ones 5cm)... but it seems I already learned how to make a nice cut ^_^

I think I have found the answer to the first plants name! So, I went to the website link and copied the chinese symbols. I then pasted it on google translate as Chinese to English and it came up as Antlers grass!
