What do i need for a planted tank

Ok im getting a tank for my birthday i dont know what size yet so what would i need besides a filter ,heater fish, plants and drift wood, and gravel . Any thing big and expensive

light is one of the most important things.there are different types of bulbs, and each has its pros and cons.

do your research on different lighting fixtures, they can get pretty expensive
