Im just wondering where you guys buy your t5 "high output" lights? do you get it at like a home depot or lowes? your local hard wear store? and are they lights that are actually going to grow plants?

i'm getting mine from a local store called "grow Crazy" , there around 50 for the light and header.

If you wanna DIY an existing single t8 fixture, it can be done remarkably easy. Home Depot has double t5 fixtures that take up less space than one t8. 40$ for the fixture, then whatever bulbs you wanna use on top of that. Its 4 screws to take the t8 out. Then you need to cut/dremel the old screw posts off of your old housing, put the t5 in, drill 2 small holes in the top of the light housing and use 2 small bolts to attach it all. after that match your wires up and your good to go. My light never had a ground wire, which the t5s require, so i needed a new cable as well(old monitors work lovely). Downsides are the lights are only available in 24, 36 and 48 inch increments, but from what ive seen, bulbs in those sizes are cheaper than the odd ball aquarium sizes (22, 28, 30 inch ect). I have 2 24's on a 30 inch wide 36 gallon bow front and it seems to be working nicely, and my bulbs arent even HO's. The major plus to it all is it looks 99% original, you will just have 2 screw heads on the top of the housing. Easy Peasy

HTGSupply sells a hanging fixture for aquaponics around 50 dollars, with shipping it costs around 60-70. You have the option of 2 6500k bulbs or 3000k(pink) bulbs.. u can also mix them up.  I've had okay results, the bulbs are spread apart nicely but no individual reflectors, but it does produce pretty high lighting.

amazon which took me to big al's for my aqua life t5 ho. for my cfl I go the catilina aquariums. if I had the money to get the t5ho through them I would have because it came with 4 bulbs, and now after having my aquaticlife t5 ho for a few months which is only 2 bulbs I'n wanting another unit.. thats almost double what the catilina aquarims light is.
