This was my first attempt at setting up a dirted tank.

The biggest lesson I have learned from this project is sphagnum like to float!  If you are using a lot of sphagnum make sure to cap it with something heavy enough to keep it anchored to the bottom of the tank.  I had used sphagnum, potting soil, and Turface at about a 1:1:1 ratio and it turned out to be a big mess.

I had to drain the tank back down and make a mix of the 3 layers.  I then removed over 50% of the mix added a little more potting soil and recapped with Turface.  The end result is still a little murky because I didn't rinse the turface first but the electric blue rams I added to the tank seem happy.
