Rimmless aquariums are used with thicker glass, and are buildt to withstand th water pressure behind the glass panes. The weight of a 55 gallon is tremendous. Without proper support on the corners, and the middle brace, the tank will bow out and collapse outward. I wish the best of luck, But if you still have the trim, i highly suggest you put it back on.
