Awesome tanks! This Cichlid wont eat your plants? Are they a good community cichlid like the rams?

I have two in my 55 gallon tank. They don't eat or nip at any of the plants that I have in there. Mine are very small, probably right at 2 inches now and I've had them for over 6 months in there it seems. They do very well imo but they can be very territorial at times. With my feeding regiment for that particular tank they have grown only a little bit but I have read that these cichlids, if you have a male and a female will mate and lay their eggs on your substrate and defend them to the death. I think I have two females so no worries there for me. :)
