"before i add fish...i do like near 80% water change to get rid of stuff in the water and the tea color =P a bit extreme but it clears that stuff right up! wait a week for it to darken and then do it again."

"I think you can use carbon for the clear up stage of the tank. What % of water do you change?"

Tannin in the water

I have dirted my tanks about a two months ago and there is still a amber color in the water. Its not the wood because when i had the wood in my tanks prior to dirting i never had tannins. I do plenty of weekly water changes and still after the wc the tannin color gradually increases. I dont use carbon in my filters and i heard it absorbs the tannin. What i find confusing is that when i watch videos of peoples dirted tanks they look clear with no amber tint. Like Dustins tanks for example. The…See More

"Imo 25% is good, thats what i was told anyways...my tank is planted pretty good and after i set it up i went through a spike, but after that i just stuck to 2 25% water changes a week, because im very close to being overstocked.More than 25% can be bad…"

Glossostigma elatinoides difficulty level

right now i am growing micro swords in one spot to create a carpet. i started hearing more about glossostigma and the great carpet it makes. i also read that glossostigma is a difficult plant and requires very high light and it wont grow right if the light isnt high enough. i still have a spot for glossostigma in my tank. My tank specifications were already stated in my forum post "Micro swords". But, if you dont know my tank lighting is two t5 24 watt bulbs on my 20 gallon long tank. i use the…See More

Micro sword

I just bought some micro swords at my lfs. I sparsely planted them because they woman at the store said they'll spread and make a nice foreground carpet. Is it true micro swords require very high lighting. I have a 20 gallon long tank with two t5 bulbs. 24 watts each so 48watts for a 20 gallon tank. It's a pretty shallow tank so i hope they're getting enough light. I am dirted and have CO2. Also my lights are on for 8 hours a day. Do you think they will do okay and will they spread to form a…See More
