Planning is very important for inbuilt tanks as you cannot just change your stand or tank to suit any changes of decision after it is in. I've read a few books (I recommend "The Inspired Aquarium" by Jeff and Mike Senske) and went through some fun with my Architect who freaked out when I said she needed to find somewhere to put a largish aquarium, knew nothing about Aquariums other than they contained fish and water, but had enough grey matter to ask some obvious questions.
I figure sharing my success/failures will give others some courage to go big, whilst keeping aquarium maintenance simple :)
