I have decided I want to change my 55 Gallon to a riparium. If you havent heard of them check them out here(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lV8TnMj_E5A&feature=plcp). I think they are awesome and will add something new to a planted tank. I wanted to add a African Butterfly fish but its something Ive never keep before. Ive done a little reasearch and know they will jump and have the potential to glide across the room. If my tank is only filled about 3/4 of the way full, do you think it could still jump out. I dont know if it would have the vertical jump it would need to make it about 6 inches over the glass sides. But then again, I have no idea what they are capable of. Let me know if youve kept them before or have any info, that would be awesome. Also, what tank mates would you reccomend? When its all said and done there will only be about 35 gallons of water, so I would be able to stock it like a normal 55. Let me know what you know. Thanks.
hey. they definately wont jump over the tank and they dont glide across the room? lol. they will jump but if its like totally filled to the top. they will only jum if they are scared or in destress also. they will attack small ish like baby neons. so it looks good in my oppinion but be carefull the fish u keep with them. and i think they like lower ph?
Thanks for the info. I was thinking about keeping rams and apistos with it.
rams will definately work and are gorgous but i wouldent go with apistos cus they are agressive as hell and will kill the butterfly in seconds especialy since they see those bottom fins that look like food! can i reccomend african killifish? those allways work great in pauludariums and repariums heres a great vid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U1O-vQQriBg&list=FLhhk1LWqDq6c4P...
and another great vid of the pauludarium to give u ideas to build urs!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Akh3DiwlK6Y&list=FLhhk1LWqDq6c4P...
and another vid showing fire bellied newts and a tiretrack eel those would work great with ur tank also http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lk6TRs4xZwo&list=FLhhk1LWqDq6c4P... and goodluck!
thanks for everything. Im looking into killifish now, they are gorgous fish.
ik they are. they used to be huge in the hobby in the 70s but like now its impossible to find adults u usually have to hatch them by eggs. oh and just some info most killies only live a year but they breed like rabbits so by the timme ur adult dies it will have 100+ fry to keep going on in the tank
