Whats up fishtank people! I am finally setting up my first real dirted tank. I have been using a bowl to experiment on but now I want to go all out with a real tank. I've gathering resources for my next big tank and I want this one to have tons of plant growth. My last tanks had no dirt and I have gotten the "ok" stuff along with this so called "plant substrate". Don't remember the name. I have got nothing but algae everywhere and every big load of plants I get they die off in about a week, EVEN FREAKON ANACHCHARIS. I have learn a lot about keeping plants and now I want to do it right with the right stuff.

What are the best BRANDS of dirt I can use at an affordable price?

Anacharis can't die if you have the wrong substrate,,, It will thrive even in bare gravel or floating as it gets its nutrients from leaves, so its probably a lighting problem
