Macro Solution
33g Potassium Nitrate (KNO3)
7.2g Potassium Phosphate (KH2PO4)

Dosing
250ml Water5ml of Macro solution per 50 litres of water
2.5ml of Trace solution per 50 litres of water

368 litres Aquarium

368L/ 50L = 7

 = 7 lots of 50L

   = 7 x 5ml = 36ml of macro to treat 368 litre

Dosing 36ml of macro 2x weekly.

How much will 250g of KNO3 salt LAST?

For dosing a 250ml bottle of Macro mix 33g of KNO3 with 250ml of water.

250g salt /33g salt = 7.5

= 7.5 or 71/2 lots of 33g of KNO3 salt

So now we know 250g KNO3 will make 7.5 batches mixing at 33g each.

The recipe requires us to mix 33g of KNO3 to 250ml of water

So,

250ml / 36ml = 6.9 (this calculation shows the amount of time I can dose 36ml of KNO3 from a 250ml bottle)

=6.9 / 2= 3.4 (now I divide the amount of time I can dose KNO3 from a 250l bottle by the amount of time weekly I will be adding KNO3 to the tank, this is added (2) times weekly)

=3.4 x 7.5 = 26Weeks (here I’m multiplying the amount of weeks a 250ml bottle will last (3.4W) by the amount of batches I can make from 250g of KNO3 salt (7.5))

So in theory 250g of KNo3 salt will last 26 weeks dosing a 368L tank.

For the other salt just use the same formula and modify the amount of salts required and recalculate and also the volume of your tank’s capacity.

How much will 250g of (KH2PO4) salt LAST?

For dosing a 250ml bottle of Macro mix 33g of KNO3 with 250ml of water.

250g salt /7g salt = 35.7

= 35.7 or 35.7 lots of 7g of (KH2PO4) salt

So now we know 250g (KH2PO4) will make 35.7 batches mixing at 7g each.

The recipe requires us to mix 33g of (KH2PO4) to 250ml of water

So,

250ml / 36ml = 6.9 (this calculation shows the amount of time I can dose 36ml of (KH2PO4) from a 250ml bottle)

=6.9 / 2= 3.4 (now I divide the amount of time I can dose (KH2PO4) from a 250l bottle by the amount of time weekly I will be adding (KH2PO4) to the tank, this is added (2) times weekly)

=3.4 x 35.7 = 121 Weeks (here I’m multiplying the amount of weeks a 250ml bottle will last (3.4W) by the amount of batches I can make from 250g of (KH2PO4) salt (7.5))

So in theory 250g of (KH2PO4) salt will last 121 weeks dosing a 368L tank.

For the other salt just use the same formula and modify the amount of salts required and recalculate and also the volume of your tank’s capacity.

The cost of dosing liquid ferts compared to doing it diy with dry salts is very uncanny. By conjuring up your own mix can also give you the benefits on dosing your plants and targetting their needs more accurately and you know whats exactly is going into your system. Plus it saves you a pritty penny too!.
