My female has been perched on a rock in my tank for the past few days. I woke up today and turned on the light only to find her "missing". I searched the tank and finally found her on the ground next to some of my plants. I picked her up and moved her to a rock again. Her belly is bloated and I'm not exactly sure whats wrong. Could she be constipated? Im really hoping its that rather then egg bound.....I know constipation can be cured with peas and garlic. Any help would be nice.
If you were able to "pick her up" that's not good, but I assume you meant catch her in the net. Either way don't bother her. Sounds like she's sick. Rams don't slow down like humans when they're expecting. They actually get more excited show more vitality.
Bloat is common in Rams, but I forget what medicine to use. Google it if no one else replies. But it could really be any number of problems. Here's a couple things you can do in the meantime:
1) Change the water - ALOT. Suck up any detritus in the gravel and give her fresh tap water - Rams love super clean water. And leave some (but not too much) chlorine in - its an antiseptic that will evaporate out of the water. If you have chloramine that's ok too but you'll have to remove it after a day or two. Make sure that if you're leaving the chlorine/chloramine in not to change more than 33% of the water. Otherwise change as much water as you can.
Feed her live mosquito larvae or Daphnia. They're great laxatives and great foods overall. Anyone can raise mosquito larvae in the summer by putting out a container of stagnant water with floating Lettuce leaves. You may also end up with bloodworms, Mayfly larvae, etc.
PS
Get her a man if she doesn't already have one!
