My first dirted tank has been up and running since a couple of days before Christmas. Looking great at the moment. Still need to get the second tank sorted so I can get the platies moved. A few days ago I noticed I have more babies so may be a little while.

Currently planted with anacaris (until I can find some cabomba here in the UK), amazon bleheri and hair grass.

Moved the neons and the cories yesterday and they are loving it.

Noticed last night that I have a brown algae issue. Any ideas how to stop it? I probably need to get some major water changes on the go to get it in check. Anyway gives me the excuse to buy the ottos I was planning on getting a bit earlier.

Ordering an external filter at the end of the month to replace the Fluval U series in here so that should be fun setting up. Looking at the All Pond Solutions EF series filter as they seem to have had some great reviews and seem great value for money.

best algae eater in my opinion is the bristle nose pleco, only grows 5 inches tops, I have one in a 10 gal and not a spec of algae.

you will be good with the ottos but the bristle nose may cover more ground. if you have ottos you would need quite a few for that size tank. the brown algae is tough since there are many things that can cause it to explode in your new tank. try one thing at a time like stop ferts if any and then back off the light if its to much like over 5 or 6 hours. in a newly planted tank your plants are just starting to really take up the nutrients at a more rapid rate. start with more frequent and big water changes and of course remove by hand or a tooth brush works great to

I have reduced my lighting right down, only having it on for a couple of hours for feeding time. No ferts being used. Going to get those big water changes done today. Putting in 8 ottos this next weekend.
