Goin to start up a saltwater tank

But i have a few questions... I have an old filter i used on a freshwater tank... Can i use it on a new saltwater tank or do i have to get a new one?

Comment by Meagan Wyers, Blaine's BFF on December 23, 2012 at 2:23am: haha! well the first filter can just be like a regular filter...but you should take the second filter and take out all the media and put some live sand on the bottom then put in some chetomorpha which is a kind of macro algae. The macro algae will help reduce phospates, nitrates, etc. If you want to learn more about refugiums...just search them on google or on youtube!:) im not to good at explaining things so sorry!

Oh and also there is a guy on youtube called newyorksteelo....he is knowlagable in the saltwater hobby so you should check him out!

Comment by Meagan Wyers, Blaine's BFF on December 23, 2012 at 2:25am: oh and by the way i forgot to mention that the refugium filter which is the one with the macro algae and live sand, will have to be lighted 24/7...you can go to lowes or Home Depot and buy a clip on led lamp for pretty cheap and that should do fine
