Well this is my first time on here. I have a Fluval Chi 25 liter tank. I have 3 male Guppies, 3 female Guppies, 2 Harlequin rose Boras. I also have 2 cherry shrimp. 2 of my Guppies are pregnant they have gotten very box looking so I have isolated them in a nursery box. This is the first time I've ever had any experience of this and I'm looking forward to watching them give birth and grow. I will post some pictures as soon as I have any. At the end of the month I'm buying a new 10gallon tank so my baby guppies have somewhere to move into. If anyone has any input on what I should do or how I can make life for these pregnant Guppies more comfortable then please let me know. So bye for now I'll be on with some pictures soon

The nursery box will stress the females and maybe delay the birth, but if you want to save all the babies I guess that may be your only option. But instead of using your 10 gallon tank for the babies, use it for the fish that are in your 25 liter tank now. Just add a bunch of plants and you've got yourself a perfect Guppy tank!. The baby Guppies or "fry" will hide inside the plants and remain safe, although the Rasboras could be trouble - I'm not sure. Get plants like Java Moss and Water Sprite - stuff that have lots of tangled roots and leaves where the babies can get lost.

Use the 25 liter tank for the eventual overflow of fish. Another name for Guppies is "Millions Fish". Can you guess why? lol The only fish more popular than the Guppy is Goldfish. You made a great choice. Can't wait to see pictures of your Guppies - the male ones at least.

Hi,
Thank you for replying. I put my females in the nursery box yesterday when they both looked like battle ships with the gravid spot very dark. Now they both look thinner and the gravid spots are lighter. I will put some photos on. Should I remove them or keep them in the nursery box?

If they're thinner that usually means they had babies. Are there any babies in the nursery box?  If not, I can't understand why they'd be thinner and have a lighter gravid spot. But I guess you should take them out.

Don't put too many males in the tank with the females because most males will exhaust them to death by constantly chasing them. I keep guppies in my pond outside in the summer and in the pond the females can always get away from the males. But in a ten gallon or five gallon tank they can't do that.

Eventually, I would get rid of the nursery box and put a bunch of plants in. Hornwart is another good plant to buy. You don't have to plant it; just throw it in the tank and it'll grow like crazy. Like Water Sprite, Java Moss, and Water Lettuce; Hornwary likes to float.

Although its true that a female guppy can eat its young, they're usually good about having their babies in a private spot or in the middle of the night when its totally black. The babies are very good at escaping from bigger fish as long as they have a place to hide.
