So I followed Dustin's videos on dieting a tank. I drain and refill on Sat & Sun then last night I drained & added plants. My water is not cloudy. What should I do?

Well ill start by asking how big a tank you have? How big a layer of dirt did u use? How big is the cap layer on the dirt? So the second day u added plants and u think the cloudiness I a problem right..? Well u should be doing like 50%-80% waterchanges daily for the first week. Then drop it off to like once a week after that. Everytime u add plants u will bring dirt up into the water column. No big deal but shouldn't be done that often as to not get an ammonia spike or something like that. So just keep at the waterchanges and u will be good

It's a 55 gal tank. I used about 2in of dirt & 2in of substrate give or take. Sat drain & fill with no cloudiness & Sunday I did the same. On yesterday I drained the tank and planted some swords & jungle Val. I also added a pic of drift low is but it was conditioned for a tank. Added the filter late Monday night after filling the tank from planting & this morning I still had cloudy water.

Well from what u said. U should continue doing waterchanges once a day 50% at least for another 3 days and hopefully that will clear the cloudiness up Well that plus ur filter. Also if its a new tank te cloudiness could just be newtank syndrome but I would go ahead and blame the excess nutrients leeching out of the substrate

I did a 100% water change on Tuesday & 50% in yesterday. Still a little cloudy though. This was previous a cichlid tank. I put a lot work & money into this tank over the past few days and this getting a little discouraging.

Don't get discouraged it happens. It would be weird if it wasn't cloudy the first week or 2. Keep up with the waterchanges but make sure wen u are filling the tank back up u do it slowly so u dont disturb the substate. Also how many plants do unusable In ur tank Can u link a pic of it if possible.

Peter is right, its normal and dont get discouraged its worth it. Check to make sure you dont have an area where the cap is too thin and dirt is coming up, it happened to me once and I had the same problem. I couldnt figure out why it was so cloudy for so much longer than my previous dirted tanks, Its hard to see it so just stick ur finger in there every couple inches but make sure the holes you make with your finger are filled back up.
