Wen u overstock the fish poop builds up faster causing poor water quality and u get algae blooms or bacteria blooms. U can have an overstocked tank If u have tons o filtration were the extra bio load from the fish won't matter because of ur filtration. U could also just do more water changes weekly if u don't have tons of filtration. Also poor water quality causes fin rot and makes ur fish more subseptible to infections and parasites so its better to have an under stocked tank to avoid these problems. But I ur angels aren't all full grown ur ok ATM but u will need a bigger tank or more filtration down the road.

The biggest concern I would have is when these fish get to maturity.  At that point they are going to likely get aggressive with one another as they pair off, and all hell can break loose when they spawn.  Some angels are better than others about this, and I've had pretty good luck with groups that all grew up together, but it's still a risk.

In that size tank I probably wouldn't stock more than 3-4 angels at the most and even then you might have problems if one decides to be an alpha.

I agree jeta. With few exceptions I've found that breeding cichlids need a tank of their own.  Of course the other way to go is to have so many fish in the tank that territorial instincts are overwhelmed and break down, but this seems unnatural and cruel to me.

Yeah, I have been keeping angels forever, (20 plus years) I breed, and what not. I have 4 in a 40 tall; (one is dime size tho) and I feel like thats too many. I normally have 4 to 5 in a 75g, but my 75 is down right now due to a broken filter and lack of space. The 40 gallon is over filtered (100 gallon plus filter) and has a tone of live plants, and weekly 50% water changes, so I dont feel too bad about keeping them in there. For your 37g; 3 is what I would personally max out at, plus a bottom feeder to help with clean up. Or 8, with twice daily water changes; haha.
