Getting a new aquariumn today I may plan to use sand the reson why is I've never tried it before.shall I or shall I continue with gravel. This new aquarium is a jewls rio aquariumn 240liters.4 ft long 16 inch wide and 20 inch high.

Well if you want to grow plants you should get neither, you should get eco complete if your gonna grow plants.

If your not gonna grow plants i would get sand.

Sand in my opinion looks good, but ive never used it.

Gravel is easy to mantain. I would just get a pelco if your going with gravel to clean the bottom.

But i have heard sand is really messy and you need to wash it very thurly.

Gravel you also need to wash thurly but its not as messy.

totally disagree w/ calvin on the ecco complete thing. u can grow plants in reg gravel or plain sand so long u dose ferts and use root tabs. the gravel and sand thing is basically ur choice sand looks alot neater in my opinion.

I use sand in my 55, it looks way better than gravel. Though it does take a while to wash, its worth it.

Well I've been to the pet store and the man reccomended tetra statrum it's a substrate I've added that in and over the top 25kg of sand.
