Depends... what do you like to have in your tanks?  "schooling" fish, lone fish,  big fish, small fish, inverts, frogs, etc.  are you putting a hardscape in or not.   Just for my own curiosity, what kinda filtration u got on that 55 gal?

Well um I love schooling fish and medium size fish... My filtration is marineland penguin 350 biowheel.Yes I'm planning on putting in driftwood and plants

My 55 has rams, angels, tetras, and puffers, a gourami, a barb, a platy, a molly. They all get along very well! I had a Severum, but he was getting too big so I gave him in for more neon tetras.

I like tiger barbs despite their rep of being a nippy fish. If kept in sufficient numbers they will only bother each other. Serpae tetras are great in a planted tank. Their red bodies contrast well against the green. I also like small cichlids like the kribs they work well too. This setup is a semi aggressive tank so nothing slow with long flowing fins. You could even do rams instead of the kribs. i hope this helps and happy fishkeeping
