So yeah the 55 has ich........ thanks to a festivum. I know its not his fault just feel like he tricked me. Ok so the story is i help out at one of my lfs and we had three fest. that got ich from being shipped to us got stressed and yeah i set up a medical tank for them in the back of the store and 2 died by the next day... they were already sick for awhile. the last one cleared up and got his color back so i took him home and put him in my 55 with the 8 rainbows, 2 angles, 5 rapheals, 4 hillstreamloachs, 2 bala sharks, and 2 frestwater flonders. and his color got better over 3 days or so then by the 5 day i woke up and he was covered in ich. I quickly set up a med tank and got him out, hopeing i got him out in time, but nope the rest of the fish got it but very little of it i imediately raised the temp to above 80 replaced 30 gallons of water and added aquarium salt alot of it and i saw less spots this moring i am planing to keep doing this for untill all signs are gone and then some grace days ..... the tank is dirted(then layer of dirt like about 1/4inch with about 2 inches of sand on top) moderitely planted ... poor planrts cause the salt but rather save the fish. anyways is there anything else i can do to help recovery
For planted, petty much water changes
If you suspect your plants to be dying then I would suggest taking the plants out and replace after the infestation is taken care of. This would be the best way to save everything
okay thank you for the advice. gonna do another big water change when i get home tonight from work thinking at least 30 gallons, plants seem fine so far. Question though and ich be tranfered from the plants and if so whats best way to clean them to prevent that cause only place i can move them so they get light is the 44 with my discus. Really dont want them geting sick to. its to cold to but a spare tank outside for the plants to get light
and what should i do to cheer up the festivum some he is in a ten gallon by him self with nothing but a heater and air pumb and seems depressed i keep it fairly dark for him in the ten
in order to get rid of the ick on the plants I suggest using potassium permanganate. let's do be careful about the concentration you can kill all the plants using a potassium permanganate dip. this dip also kills any other organisms on the plant. major hardware stores should have potassium permanganate in solution already but you will just have to make the concentration weaker
okay ill try and do some research on that then.
