My Gourami male has started a bubble nest which is now a good size. There is a female in the tank, and if they breed I want to be ready for fry. I've heard that gourami fry are extremely small ad can't eat flake food, so I was wondering what to feed the fry when they do hatch. For my guppies, platys, ad mollies I currently feed their babies Hikari First Bites, the powdered flake food, but I've never had gourami fry before.
Would live baby brine shrimp work?
Read this on someone else's post while reading up incase mine spawn.
"Gourami fry are extremly small they can not eat flake food for several weeks no matter how small Egg yolk is ok but put very little in at a time or you will foul the water and kill the fry.A way to prevent this is to put af ew small snails in the tank to eat the food that the fry do not eat.Gren water is an excellent first food for gourami fry Green water is anamal and plant mini creatures invisable to the eye .You can create this by putting a piece of lettuce in ajar and setting it on a window sill where it gets light. After several day the water in the jar should turn green. Add this water minus the lettuce to you fry tank. This is less poluting than the egg yolk route"
i was going to try fry infusoria but I don't have enough time to make that... I believe gourami fry hatch in about 30 hours, which is a day and 6 hours.
green water same thing...
I'll try egg yolk route, if that means like a boiled egg yolk? i have a few shrimp coming this week and i have a cory cat i may put in that tank later
I never raised Gourami fry. But I segregate my Ram eggs into a half-filled 5 gallon tank and feed them "Golden Pearls" when they hatch. Ram fry are also tiny and Golden Pearls is a specialized food for tiny fish fry. The first three days the fry become free-swimming is a critical phase; if they don't eat during this time they will die. Most of the food added to the hatchery is not eaten so I change it once or twice a day to keep it clean. After a week your fry might be able to accept baby brine shrimp.
Green water may work too - not sure. But I know breeders in Asia put their newborn (free-swimming) Bettas in small ponds that look like they're filled with Pea Soup.
