Got some driftwood at this nature preserve park the was clearing some of their lake area. Just boiling them now to get them ready for my tank.

Any kind of drift wood will deteriorate eventually if its kept under water. It will eventually get a rotten smell but its good for plants like java fern or Anubias to grow off of. Doesn't matter what type of wood you use just as long as it doesn't have any bacteria on the wood . I put my stuff in the bathtub and dump boiling water on it. Let it soak and repeat the process for about a week. Well worth the hassle though cause my wood came from the river and I don't want to add any harmfull substance to my aquarium.
