Comment by brosaquaticuniverse on November 13, 2011 at 10:21pm: you know im not sure. thats a great question. i know some people that only use a little excell and it doesn;t kill the plants but i don't doubt it hinders growth. i personally don't like to use chemicals in my tanks. iv found that its to much effort for to little output. but you could always try it and see iv read that its not using the chemical that does the damage its the sudden use of it. so i suggest going against the directions on the bottle and slowly introducing it to your plants. if you start to see them dying then stop and try it again slower after a water change of course. let me know if you got this.

Comment by brosaquaticuniverse on November 22, 2011 at 5:14am: sorry it took awhile to get back to ya. schools been driven me nuts this summer. but my special gravel is the dirt. i have dirt on the bottom and gravel on top. granted the dirt on top is flourite i wont use it again just because i don't think it neccessary. i will just use regular gravel over the dirt.
