Well you guys. My apple snail committed suicide last night. And I just wanted to write how it happened so maybe someone can avoid it.

So it all started when my tank got ick. I lowered the amount of light in the tank, added salt in a cup that rested on the bottom, turned up the temp, fed live food and more flake than normal for their immune system, and did daily 25% water changes. That was 5 days ago today. And I am glad to say the ick is gone and as of today the lights are back on and the temp is coming down.

Now for the story of the unfortunate snail. The apple liked to eat on my 5in air stone. It would crawl on it and then every so often get lifted up in the stream of bubbles to the top of the tank then gently float back down. Well some point last night, he decided to gently float back down INTO the cup of salt. Needless to say, it is now dead. I imagine it happened rather quickly.

Now you know what can happen if your a rather unlucky snail. I assume all the particular pieces that had to fall into place for this to happen is pretty rare, but hey next time I will cover the cup with cheesecloth or something. Anywho, thanks for reading my story!

I have suicidal ghost shrimp. Normally, the 10 ghost shrimp in my tank live up to their name. I can never find them. However, if I try to use peroxide to kill black brush algae, suddenly all these ghost shrimp come running over to have a closer look at what I am doing. They like to hang around whatever plant I am dribbling peroxide on. Stupid shrimp.
