Well in my experence with my 44 and 55 gallons aquariums pros are plants always feeding and grow mad, fairly low matence. cons intial setup is a pain do to many water changes to insure no amonia that if you dont soak ur dirt fist, and other con is that until u find that balance point ur likely to have algae at least alittle. each tank is different and my face different issues i personly started my first tank(44) with dirt and love it and wood not change it im a dirt kinda guy(so much so i only plan to keep dirt planted tanks) way i see it plants and fish are found in lakes rivers and ponds with under the cap theres dirt so its only natural
