i think this has been discuss before.....

NO.

Just a heater will be fine

Just a heater would be fine , most heaters show how many gallons there for
But is there any truth to the idea that heater cables under the dirt help to create water flow through the roots and help to prevent compaction and the development of harmful gasses in the soil? I don't have cables in my planted tank but saw this post and got kinda curious.

not likely....more like keeping the roots warm...lol

as for getting rid of gas buildup...you need to look for MTS snail or stir it up yourself.

I got the trumpet snails but how are you supposed to stir up a dirted tank without making a huge mess? I also got some assassin snails to help keep the trumpets in line. Word to the wise, assassin snails are voracious. I severely underestimated how much they would eat. pretty much wiped out the trumpets. One or two of the assassins is probably enough.

thanks for the info on the assassin snail! Will look into them if mine MTS is out of control (shouldn't be a problem).

you can't really stir up the dirt as it will mess up your tank and filter...

let the MTS do the work for you ...good luck!

I'm trying out a cable for the first time. I'll make sure and get a review video up in about a week
