Just wanted to throw some feeding tips y'alls way...

Yah everyone knows about over feeding, or that a fish's stomach is about the size of its eyeball, or how the tank gets dirty faster and spikes nitrate/nitrite levels with excess food, but that's now what I want to mention today.

Variety guys, the fish love the variety.  And they respond to it with higher energy levels and brighter colors.  Don't just feed them veggie flake everyday; you'll never get any good color out of your rainbows or whatever ya got by going that route.  I feed my fish dried blood worms  shrimp (hand crushed), veggie flake, color enhancing flake (higher in fat and protein), algae wafers (crushed into a powder), liquid blood worms (designed for the aquatic frogs), sinking pellets and cyclop-eeze.  [Now the puffer tank is a different story, alternate frozen blood worms and frozen freshwater mysis shrimp,'cuz they're pure carnivores.)

Yah, I know that's a lot of food, but the key isn't to give them a little of everything all at once; that's the fast track to over feeding and poor water chemistry.  I just give them small amounts of a couple different items at a time, 2-3 times a day and spread it out over a few days or a week.  I've found that feeding habits are fairly dependent on your water changing ritual.  I am pretty religious with checking my tanks, fishing out plant/food debris, I do water changes every Thursday/Friday, and filter changes 1-2 times a month.

Seriously... cyclop-eeze, if you use it, you know what I am talking about.  If you don't, you want to get it.  I bought 5 different types of rainbows about 3 weeks ago, and they were pretty bland (barely any color).  And 3 weeks on this diet and I got some crazy colors out of ALL my fish, from the dennison barbs to the rams to even the rasboras!  Oh, and the dwarf gourami in the other tank.... like blood on fire!  Just crazy color...
