cute tank.  If you're wanting to make a pathway, why not try some sand.  white or off white.  even play sand will work.  and instead of it being in a line, you can curve the path.  you can get sand from many playgrounds or just buy some from your local hardware store.  If you have a stream near by you can boil and wash that sand and use it instead.  There are many places to get it =)

i have black sand, i just don't really want to drain my tank right now but if i ever do i will
