Against a smaller tank? More space for more fish, more room for aquascaping, more room for larger plants, more room that may allow you to keep some species you weren't able to keep before because of the limited capacity from a 10 gallon, and it's easier to maintain, nitrites, nitrates, ammonia and other stuffs don't build up so quickly in them as those things are dispersed through a larger space and aren't so concentrated.

Against a larger tank? More floor room for you if you live in an apartment or something, not such a huge project or as heavy if you need to empty/ move it somewhere else, may be cheaper too.

As said before, There is more space for more fish, there is more room for aquascaping, there is more room for plants, there is more room that may allow you to keep some species you weren't able to keep before because of the limited capacity from a 10 gallon (a 10 gallon isn't as long, deep, or high as a 29/30 gallon as a 30 gallon is typically somewhere around 36 in. long x 12 in. in width, and 16 in. tall, while the 10 gallon is only 20 in. long, 12 in. in width, and 12 in. tall), it's also easier to maintain, as nitrites, nitrates, ammonia and other stuffs don't build up so quickly in a larger tank as those toxins are dispersed through a larger space and aren't so concentrated. I approve of you to buy either a 29 or 30 gallon because I have always kept 10 gallon tanks since I've been in the hobby, and I just recently dirted a 55 and I'm loving all the extra space I have. the 30 gallon will seem immensely larger and it'll make you happy. There really aren't any major drawbacks to a bigger tank. Get it! Sidenote: There really isn't a difference in tank sizes between a 29/30 gallon. Think of them as the same size. Cause they are.

Bigger is always better, more room for everything.  I started many moons ago with a 5 1/2 gallon, went to a 30 then to a 60 now I have a 90. Every larger one was better and in many ways simpler to maintain.  I keep mine going well with less than 2 hours every 2 weeks or so.  Letting  a larger tank go for a while longer makes the nitrate...etc less dangerous.  I did build a taller tank stand so I can see into the tank at an eye level, it did make me buy a small step ladder to do maintence.
