I as well would like to know what it is. I had the same little balls of algae in my 34 Gallon tank but it went away on its own. I thought it was some sort of moss because it showed up after setting a moss ball in my drift wood.

I also have a couple moss balls, but I don't think they are involved, I had them for many months before this happened.  I tried some anti algae solution every three days, it might be helping, I will let you know in a week or so.
