I have a tank that has been running for about 2 years now and I was looking into dirting it, do I need to drain the tank then add the dirt or can I add the dirt with the water and fish still in the tank?
there is a way to add dirt to an existing tank. First you wont be able to dirt the whole tank efficently this way.
1 get dirt thats already been soaked and wrap it with coffee filter or wax paper. (dont make a super large ball
2 shove the wrapped dirt ball near or under your existing plants
3 done
the wax paper or coffee filter is biodegradable and will degrade over some time. easy dirting process
i finally partially dirted my only tank that was left without a few weeks ago wasnt bad at all i just drained it down to the substrate pushed it all to one side put dirt down capped it then did the othe side. should be fine as long as your careful i had the fish back in it and rescaped within 2 or 3 hours no problems....i do suggest pre soaking the dirt though at least a little bit itll just make your life easier
first you need to sit down and use a little bit of common sense before you do anything drastic and hurt yourself lol
BTW another option to use is get an ice tray fill however many wells with dirt half way then fill those wells with water till it gets to top of the dirt portion. freeze and stick under the plants. easiest way to do it but once you put it in, no takesie backsies. it melts
