I have noticed that my filters output is a little strong for my 10 gallon tank. My corries dont seem to like the bottom current and my neons avoid the area of the tank where the filter is. My current filter is a tetra wisper 10i internal power filter, and I am looking for an afordable and good quality replacement that does not produce a big current from the return. What do you recomend?
That's your wording, not his. You're arguing semantics now.
When we're done talking about dirty water, I'd like your opinion on reverse flow undergravel filters. I've never tried one but everything tells me they're is a great way to create surface area and a good environment for plants.
"which dissolves toxic nutrients from entering the water column via the substrate." Its not well written but clearly he's saying nitrogenous waste does not enter the waster column. There's no other interpretation.
What about reverse flow filters?
Easy cure, put a spray bar across the entire width of the tank, make sure your filter is properly loaded with media and if the currant is still too strong, turn the flow down. Plants need some water movement to keep them free from debris, circulate nutrients to them and most important to get co2 circulating around them whilst the lights are on so they can photosynthesise. Without which they will not grow. Check the additives you put in the water. Some fertilisers have nitrates and phosphates in them. Something you really don't need.
