Java moss is arguably the most common aquatic moss available. It is hardy, easy to grow, and very undemanding. Java moss provides shelter for small fry and encourages breeding for many shrimp.

Another advantage of using Java Moss is it encourages the growth of microorganisms that can be used to feed even the smallest fry.

Java moss has significant astetic value and is used to give driftwood a more natural and older look and add color contrast to rocks and hardscape.

Java moss is a slow growing plant and can easily be overrun by algae. To prevent this provide a decent amount of water circulation and trimmings when the growth limits water flow. C02 injection is not necessary but can be beneficial.

Red Cherry Shrimp will be happier with the addition of mosses. They will readily breed in the moss and pick it clean of algae to an extent.

Java moss, with many techniques, can be attached to rocks, driftwood, and decorations. Fishing line is one of the best options because it is strong, will not deteriorate in water, and nearly invisible. Sewing thread can also be used but it can disintegrate when submersed. Hairnets can be used to attach a clump to a round rock or round decoration.

Java moss will make an excellent addition to many aquascapes and provides many beneficial natural characteristics.
