Okay so I've been reading on some forums via google posts and seeing that some fish benefit from a more natural "moonlight"lighting scence,But my concern is doesn't algea feed off of any light it can get? Also with the added wattage will my moms electric bill double? I have 5 tanks fully opperational now. All have fish in them with the last being a QT that only has a heater and filter.I turn all filters off at night execpt then 90 which is downstairs in the family room so I can't hear it. Will this cause an algae bloom and unwanted added price to her bill?We currently got a lot we got to take care of with the house and we also got a lot done in the house. We still have to fix the floor, finish the driveway and do the walkway so its not muddy anymore. So tell me the pros and cons of Lunar lighting.
does it feed of moonlighting
no, as long as its very low lighting
add to the electric bill
no as long as they're low watt leds they will add only 1.08 dollars per year if you have a 5 watt led set up running at 5 hours a day. Thats 9 cents a month.
this will not cause an algae bloom.
Its for my 90gal the light itself is 216ws not sure of the light on the Lunar part though. I could ask my mom to get me a timer and have it turned on at 7pm and turn off at 12am or would that be kinda pointless?I'm up until 3am anyways so I can have it shut off before then.Or would it be pointless.
u can, but i dont think there is a bennifit to having lunar lights on. Imo i think its just nice for us. But since it has lunar lights why not use them.
Thats true thanks, I just have to find them now not sure where my fiance put them lol. And I got to get a timer. Also on lights my CFL just died on my 3gal I'm debating on getting a full spectrum CFL spiral or just the daylight spectrum one like I had. Any thoughts on that as well? Its heavily planted for a 3gal and has driftwood in the center. Also the center part of the tank where theres no plants gets algea all the time. Is there anyway to stop it or am I screwed forever washing it during water changes?
a typical daylight cfl usually is fine. as for algae where there is no plant. what kind of algae? what does it look like
Its brown and green and unsightly right in front of the tank. =[
