So i have discovered this morning that my two silver dollars in my fish tank have white ich like spots on them. I think it might just be oxygen bubbles stuck to them but idk. So i raised the temperature of the aquarium, put in aquarium salt and ich treatment, and turned off all the lights in the room. Does anyone have any advice on beating ich? If so that would be great! Thank you!

anyone who has a planted tank with fish or is serious about keeping fish should always have a separate tank that is kept cycled just for a hospital tank. this will help out a lot I would highly recommend a hospital tank. 10 gal is perfect for most people. a smaller tank like a ten gallon is easier to treat since most treatments are per gallon you use less medications. pimafix and melafix are both great products for a lot of the usual issues but not parasites go for the hardcore stuff and kill them quickly.

The only way you can kill ick quickly is by raising the temperature. This speeds up their life cycle and shortens the amount of time the offspring have to attach to a fish. It is in this free swimming phase that ick is vulnerable. If they don't attach themselves to a fish quickly they'll die. And if you add Malachite Green or any ick specific medication, they'll die immediately. The hotter the water the more effective the treatment.

I just wouldn't pull my plants. Wouldn't want any melting. Nor would I want to have to purchase another growing light. I have a 20 gal tank aside from my 55. I'm hoping soon that my 55 will be full of big plants that wouldn't fit In the twenty, and recieve ample light. Many of the tanks I see here are full. If plants are the real focus why quarantine them? Are you suggesting that if you quarantine the fish, Treat them, and re introduce them that ich would just pop right back up? Interesting. I didnt consider that. I'm sure that there is a way to not disturb the plants. Pimafix has always done the trick for me but maybe I've never had actual ich. I'm very cautious when buying fish. I don't even buy fish out of tanks that are beside, above of below tanks marked "ich" or obviously unhealthy lookin tanks lol.

Test water for ammonia and nitrite. If it is kina high then its good to do a 30% water change.

Also feed your fish Newlife spectrum cause' it has Garlic in and the fish sweat it which the parasites don't like.

Hope it gets better!
