I am trying to set up a north american domestic tank, but i still have some goldish and i had two big rosey reds(about 3"). The only predators i have in the tank are a 4" bluegill and a 2" craw fish, neither of which are big enough to eat the other fish, yet one of my rosy reds has vanished. I obvioulsy checked behind the filter and under some rocks, but it is no where to be found. Any ideas on where this thing could be?

check behind your tank on the floor and other places in a 5 foot radius.  sometimes fish jump out of the tank

Had that happen to me with an SAE. One morning came down to stare into my tanks with cup of coffee, only to notice one of my SAE's had vanished without a trace. Searched high/low, in/out, around and over there too...nothing, was just gone. If the remains were in my tank I'm sure the snail population and/or amano shrimp got to it.

After thought. Being from "the land of 10,000 lakes" I have personally seen juvie Bluegill and other Sunnies attempt to eat larger fat head and Rosie red minnows with success at the end of my fishing lines <==catch and release program. As long as the bluegills mouth is large enough to squeeze the Rosie red in. Has your bluegill eaten much after you noticed disappearance?
