The best investment for my 55 gallon tank was my wet-dry filter system. It works so well and it provides a safer way to add medicines. The heater goes into the reservoir leaving your tank free of "stuff" with more room for fish. The best benefit is no need for ammonia chips or charcoal packets.

I love my Fulval U3 on my 54 planted tank. Easy to clean, quite to run. gentle current setting for planted tanks.

but beware the U Series is overpriced.

The C Series is the best HOB Filter and beats ANY internal filter, it costs less too. AND the C Series comes with a Wet/Dry Filter!

Eheim ecco pro for sure! I use a 2236 on my 65g and it's awesome. I found that I needed to use a nano powerhead with it just for that extra circulation. Definitely a worth while investment!

Fluval 306 for sure. that's what I'm running and it's great and very quiet.

i would go with a filter that is for a bigger gallon tank i find it keeps your tank alot cleaner
