I've just purchased an in-line Vecton V2 UV 300 Aquarium Steriliser, and my question to you is which of the hoses on my filter should it be installed, the one from the intake or the one to the outflow. There is nothing that I can see in the manual informing of which it should be. Perhaps it doesn't really matter either way but thoughts, ideas, and experiences would be gratefully appreciated
I can't see there would be any difference with line you install it on. I have one inside my tank and have been running it for months. Sure cleared up my water.
Cheers for the reply DePreston, something got me thinking that if it was on the pre- filter side it would trap anything it "Zapped" in the filter media
Alan,
It is always best to send filtered, clean water to the UV. Since the premise is to have the water in close, prolonged contact with the quartz sleeve holding the bulb, presenting clean water will make the period of contact more effective. Place the UV in the return line of your filter.
I hope this helps.
Regards,
-Gary
It does indeed help, thanks very much Gary I will do that
UV Steriliser arrived from Seapets on Monday, OMG the unit was much larger than I expected, anyway after a bit of a faff on and a few cut down hoses later the installation was done and already I and no doubt my fish (really enhanced their colours) and plants are enjoying crystal clear water, and really pleased with the newly sanded tank, was a little in doubt when I was cleaning the sand ready for use as it looked shitty brown, but under the water and the two 20 watt T8 lights it looks bright and quite silvery white, Also during the fish transfer to temporary storage discovered that one of my Featherfin Squeakers has grown amazingly fast I bought two that were the same size the pale one is now 3" long and the darker one is close to 5" long, never see much of them during the day and only the odd glimpse of an evening once the lighting has been turned off.
Alan,
Good to hear you like the water clarity a UV can provide. It may not be necessary to run it all the time, so may want to put it on a separate timer or manually plug it in/out when you think you need it. Either of these two methods will prolong the life of the bulb.
Regards,
-Gary
Thanks once again Gary and you've preempted another question that was running through my mind about the need for the UV to be running 24/7, I think that I will purchase a new timer this W/E
