how do you set up a water polisher?

I get that slight yellow tint in my tank (usually onsets about two days after a 25%monthly; don't notice it on 10% weekly water changes).

FYI fluorite substrate with small layer of gravel (cichlid sand in some places), moderately planted tanks.

usually with smaller tanks you can do larger water changes and really dont need a polisher because u can remove all the particles with a WC. in larger tanks you will usually have to use a canister and the final stage of the canister filter will be reserved for a polisher. the polisher is just a finer filter material. in this case im using an open celled sponge....also known as a car wash sponge. to get clearer water you can either do more water changes more often or use purigen...it is a chemical absorbent that is similar to activated carbon but lasts longer, works better, can be recharged with bleach, and removes tannins from the water
