If you have had a good experience with play sand in a dirt tank and your tank is now a jungle, just reply.

Some people here have said sand is not good, so I'm thinking maybe it was the kind of sand or maybe the users who have jungles with the sand are doing something different that works.

I'm trying to get as much information on a good cap for my dirt before I convert my already established 75 gal tank.

Thank you for any input.  This is a great site by the way to get quick info!

I have sand & jungle. The bias against sand is really unwarranted in my opinion. Yes if you don't put enough sand for a cap you'll have a mess. Solution? Use enough sand! The anaerobic scare is also unwarranted. How compact do you think that dirt is under gravel? Pretty dense & there is just as much trapped air in the dirt as there is in the sand. Yet everyone will dirt a tank in a heartbeat. If you like the look, use it without fear.

Dont use play sand. use pool filter sand. play sand will compact, trap gasses, and not allow oxygen to the plants roots. pool filter sand on the other hand has bigger grains of sand and will do none of these.
