it's call tanning.

with dirt tank, it will leech them out of the substrate. Weekly water change will remove it after a few months.

no...tanning only help lower the ph and does nothing for plants

also my plants have lots of new growth but by the time they get to about 2 1/2 inches thet turn brown and have holes. Any ideas?

could be deficiency of some sort of nutrient, try ferts

Thanks guys, ill try some ferts. Hopefully that will help. I think i need some calcium and pottasium
