Alright, so i'm convinced that dirt is the way to go. I plan to dirt my 20g High and wanted to know how much light (/what kind) I will need for low light plants. ATM it has the stock 15w florescent hood, and i want to plant the hell out of it.

Side note: if I upgrade the lighting it will have to be something that can fit on/over the stock hood, otherwise my cat will be all up in my tank.

Thanks:)

1xT5NO would put you in the low light range, 2xT5NO would be in the medium light range.  Need more information on what you want to keep in the tank, CO2, ferts etc. to give a more detail.

The plan is easy beginner type plants (Jungle Val, Dwarf Sag, Rotalla, Java Fern, Anubias).. and as far as fish it will be a grow out tank for guppies. The game plan is no co2 and no ferts (unless I have problems).

you could try a t8 bulb for a lower out put than t5, this will keep the low light plants growing.

your stock light should be able to handle low light plants. I was going low plants in my stock t8 fluorescent light. CO2 will also benefit the plants a bit but not necessary.
