Eco Complete definitely! I've used that substrate now for quite a while and it does not disappoint! Just make sure you spend a little extra and make it deep enough. Plants love it, it's easy to plant in and doesn't require syphoning. You can check out my videos if you want to see it in action.
I have an inch of dirt packed down(organic dirt) then I have a half inch of flowmax or flourite packed tight, then one inch of fine gravel packed thight. I placed the plastic bag from the flowmax over the substrate and allowed to water to run onto the plastic and not directly onto my substrate. My water was clear from the very beginning and never dirty. I mixed my mud very thick before packing it onto the floor of my tank ( mud pie thick)
i would do dirt. eco dose not last and use flourit as a cap if you want but i use gravel. you can get dirt from homedepot for like 10$ for a big bag of it you also can get tha gravel ther to like 3-4$ a big bag
