A runner comes off the base of the plant. For example, Val propagates via runners. Right at the root ball, it shoots off a runner across the ground and then at some random point it will grow roots and then start growing leaves/stems. At the beginning of this video, you can somewhat see a runner looks like at around 0:25.

not at all. if they are visible, you can bury them
