So im going to be setting up a 40 gallon (Freshwater). I would like to use Eco complete but i want to know what you all think. How should i go about putting it down, anything i should use, should i cap it off, any downsides?

Also, any recommendations???

Thanks a ton

Eco complete works pretty well, it's one of the cleaner substrates out there and doesn't need to be capped off.  It's supposed to be prewashed but when I added it to one of my tanks it still made the water pretty dirty.  When adding water I would put in a bowl first and let the water run into the bowl so that it spills over gently.  Plant ur plants once the substrate is moist, then continue filling the tank by running water through the hose.

The downside is that it's rather expensive to substrate a tank, people have also used dirt capped off gravel or sand for pretty good results, but I'm just starting to try that out so don't really have any pointers on that.

Thanks! i think i can scrape up enough money to put down enough
