Hey everybody.  Firstly I apologize if somebody has already put in a discussion regarding this issue.

I'm a beginner tackling something new to me.  I have a 90 gallon aquarium, with plans to set up a dirted, planted tank.  So far, I have a layer of organic miracle grow on the bottom, then a mixture of Flourite and gravel.  The gravel was used in the tank from when the previous owner had it.  Filled it all up, on my 4th water change, the water is nice and clear but there is a kind of milky, jelly type of scum forming on the bottom on top of the gravel.  Crap!  Anybody?

Can you post a pic of it that way we can help you with the specific problem n not jus trow out advice on something we might not be sure of

When I was more active (I hope to be so again) and taking things fairly seriously, I often thought that it would be great to have a decent microscope...

I don't know what this substance is, but not having seen it or heard of it before I find it quite interesting. If I were to throw out advice on something I know nothing about it would be to carry on setting up the tank with plants and stuff but keep an eye on the "scum".
