My German Blue Rams laid eggs again for the 5th time - and ate them again for the fifth time. You're going to need patience but I'm betting things will get better.

Discus are generally good parents. At some point in the future though you may need to test your water. Did you see Dustin's video about Discus? I thought it was excellent. Most Discus breeders don't even use substrate. They siphon off detritus everyday from the bottom of the tank and replenish the tank with RO or rainwater. (if you can collect it) Of course once they lay eggs you don't want to be sticking your hands in the tank.

By the way, you've inspired me. I recently bought six 3" Discus. Presently, the tank contains too much wood - organic matter. But when I transfer the Rams I'll slowly adapt the tank to conditions the Discus like - antiseptic. In the Amazon they live in water that few other plant and fish species can survive.  Its funny to watch the little Rams chase around the Discus 3 times their size when they're protecting their eggs.

Hey Mike. I'll be at the Boston Aquarium Society meeting on Monday. There's a guy that's gonna be there who breeds Discus.  Probably won't make it to the meeting in Pawtucket though.

I love blue Discus but the everyone in the industry says reds are the wave of the future. Let me know how the one from Sunrise tropicals is. I hate getting fish without personally inspecting them, but I'm curious how it works out for you.

I am the same way too with getting new fish Robert. I had a really bad experience SomethingFishy. I don't recommend them they sent me 4 assorted discus and paid over $100 and they were parasitic full. all over them died even though I tried my hardest to keep them alive. I never order fish offline anymore I have a man in Auburn, Alabama that orders for me from a man in California.

na rob sunrise tropicals gets new award winning colors from thailand every month and quarentines every fish they get, even the ones that they bred and raised. they feed beefheart every 2 days and bloodworms/ brineshrimp enfused with spirulani 2 times a day and fish that is thin or with parasites they keep in a quarentine tank for a month and put all the safe meds they can. and they put indian almond leaves and blackwater extract with the discus. these guys know what there doing and theve owned discus for 35 years now and unlike somethingfishy they specialize in discus so they keep them as their own. go on thier website and read and look at their colors. by the way these are #1 in everything discus in the world
